Empowerment Self Defense

Saturday, 2-6 pm
Led by women/queer instructors and centered on providing a trauma-informed and empowerment-based experience, this half-day workshop intensive covers self-defense basics for encountering vulnerable or dangerous situations. The short course will include an overview of physical and psychological techniques for dealing with an unarmed attacker, including skills in situational awareness, boundary setting, effective strikes, and escapes from holds, grabs, and chokes. No experience necessary and open to all genders.
Cost: $50 (sliding scale rates: $40, $30)
We believe that self-defense training should be accessible to the community. Please choose the sliding scale rate that best fits your financial situation, or contact us for scholarship opportunities.

About the Instructors
Ea Murphy (she/they) is the Chief Instructor of Tacoma Aikikai with over 25 years of martial arts experience. They have taught self-defense both on and off the mat, including formerly with the Girl Army, a Bay Area Self-Defense collective.
Avery Miller (they/them) is a third degree brown belt in Paracombatives Ju Jutsu and certified victim advocate with years of experience working with survivors of interpersonal violence.
